  Tom was my agent for both renter's insurance and auto insurance for a few years and initially did a decent job. However, in the last year, his service has spiraled downward. He has made mistakes on my policies, switched me from one company to the next to the point where I can't keep track of which insurance I have, and will not return phone calls. For instance, he cancelled my rental policy to switch me to another, but cannot recall which new company I am with. I am now a homeowner and need to cancel my old rental policy, but have had no success. It has been several months and I am still not at the bottom of this, and my husband and I are concerned that we are continuing to pay for insurance that we do not need. Tom skirts my phone calls, does not return calls, and the few times I've actually reached him, he was rude and hung up on me. A couple times he said he had called me and left me a VM, but I never received one, and no missed calls - I think maybe he thought he had called me back but didn't actually do it. We also maintained auto insurance with Tom. We recently sold one vehicle and purchased another. I was unsuccessful reaching Tom by phone, so I left him a voicemail about needing to cancel the insurance on the one vehicle and adding it for the new. He never returned my call. I finally had to call my auto insurance agency directly to get the changes made. When we moved into our new home, we asked to receive quotes for homeowner's insurance, but he was so slow about getting back with us (it would take a week or two to get in touch with him) so we went with another agency. Never did get a quote. Because Tom was decent in the beginning, I have been loathe to leave him and go with a new agent, but with the absolutely poor service and rudeness we've received in the last year and especially last few months, we have cancelled all of our policies through Tom and gone with someone else. FYI - Tom is an older gentleman - mid 70s? - so we thought his age might be a factor on his memory and why we are unable to get the info we need. I feel bad about leaving, but trusting our agent to take care of us is important. I would not recommend Tom Hinton & Associates to anyone based on his decline in service and mental status.
